My recent research interest is centered around two topics: 1) data-driven shape processing and modeling and, 2) 3D vision for robotic applications. These directions are motivated and driven by the recent fast development of 3D sensing techniques and the proliferation of 3D shape repositories.

Data-Driven Shape Processing and Modeling

Benefiting from the fast development of 3D shape repositories and machine learning techniques, data-driven approach has been widely utilized in shape processing and modeling. The knowledge / patterns about structures and semantics are learned to reason about shape structures for high-level processing, and transferred to the newly generated data. In recent, we are espeically interested in deep generative models of shape structures.

3D Vision for Robotic Applications

The recent proliferation of commodity depth sensors has led to a wide interest in 3D vision for robotic visual perception. 3D shapes are playing a more important role in a vision pipeline. 3D geometry not only enhances visual recognition and understanding but also facilitates 3D spatial reasoning for robotic navigation and manipulation.
